Comixology - Comics & Manga App Reviews

Crap

No more in-app purchases. This app is now a waste of time and space.

Pointless

This was once my go to app for buying comics online. Now its useless. It has a terrible search function, terrible interface, and you cant buy or download comics on it.

No more purchases?!

Like other reviewers, I used to use Comixology app to buy comics - now you can only read the ones youve already paid for. Goodbye, impulse purchases & "omg that issue was so good, I need the next one right now". What a silly change.

Make an Apple TV app please

Like the 1 star reviewers I do find it annoying to have to exit the app to make purchases. Interesting enough you can do that from the sibling apps like DC comics etc. But a few weeks ago I was having issues staring at the iPad and AirPlay streamed to read a comic - when using the panel by panel mode its more than readable. Why not have a native app tailored to the 16x9 experience on the Apple TV itself?

Terrible app do not bother

This program used to be great, buying books in store was a snap and I was really able to finally return to the world of comics. Since changing and having to use the stupid website Ive abandoned this app, their customer service has stated they will not be returning to a proper store model. A terrible shame. This program although suffering from crappy interface syndrome was the best way to get comics I had. Thanks for nothing guys.

The app does what its supposed to do

Ok, everyone has to let the in app purchase thing go already. Amazon isnt going to change that so get used to it. Is a few extra clicks honestly that big of an inconvenience. Honestly guys, I get on my iPad, open the browser find whatever I feel like buying click on it and it downloads to the app, its simple. Keep up the good work Comixology!

Argh! Hate!

The app is OK but the process for finding and buying comics is unbelievably difficult. Recently I cant even figure out how to buy a comic on their site -- I fill my cart with product but cant pay. If I ran a business selling things to people I would focus more effort on making the buying process easier and more pleasant in the hopes that the customer would buy more product and buy more frequently. Making it really difficult for people to buy my product I would assume would be frustrating to them and they might go else where to spend their money.

Itll take time to heal...

This is my review of the new ComiXology app, not of ComiXology itself. The Good: As an app for storing and reading a library of digital comics, this really is the only game in town. The "guided view" system makes reading comics on iOS devices a really great experience. Its so much better than PDF pinching! The Bad: Up until last month, readers could also browse the ComiXology store in the app and make purchases there as well. The feature was disabled in the new version. Now purchases must be made through the website, which is clunky and inconvenient. Preview pages dont display nicely on the full website among other issues. The Ugly: There may be many good reasons why ComiXology eliminated in-app purchasing. One of those reasons may be the approval process that every single book had to go through before it could be sold through an iTunes app. This cumbersome process may have meant that books couldnt be released on schedule, and adult themed titles were not available through the app. Ok, these could be good reasons. But the problem is that there was no really visible attempt to communicate to their customers about this huge change. If ComiXology had started an awareness campaign a month or so before this change happened, people would have still been disappointed, but it would have showed more respect to customers and helped them understand and prepare for the change to come. Thats where the company went wrong. Still, I was a kid, I have not been a comic buyer or reader until I downloaded the ComiXology app. This app got me back into comics! So I hope I get used to the new setup and regain my trust in this company. But right now, I cant rate this app higher as a main feature has been abruptly lost.

Not really worth the effort now

Amazon bought Comixology in April 2014. Now they don’t have to pay Apple’s 30% surcharge for each purchase we make, but what have we lost? There is no in-app store, no in-app browsing, no buy buttons. Not even a link to their website (per Apple’s rules). The Comixology app is now just a reader. For a new user just installing the app, it opens up to a blank screen saying in effect, “Hey, go get some comics! Somehow…” You can only buy comics from their website, if you can discover the URL on your own. You must use a credit card or PayPal. In dollars. My iTunes account runs on iTunes gift cards (in yen) from the convenience store, so that’s not going to happen. I have just shy of 700 comics in the old version, probably 500 of which were spontaneous snap purchases while in the flow of reading, clicking the “Want to buy and read the next issue right now?” button that was shown after finishing the final page of the current issue. Can’t do that anymore. Now it just adds it to your cart — it’s up to you to purchase it on the web — and the flow of reading is broken. I wouldn’t say I’m outraged, but I’m now wary, and this new system does drop Comixology below my threshold of inconvenience. I doubt I’ll be buying much of anything from them until things change in some fundamental, unlikely way. The DC and Marvel apps (both made by Comixology) still have their in-app storefronts, but it was the independent comics that were most interesting to me. Also, now that they’ve shown their willingness to mess things up in their flagship app, how long will it be until the satellite apps are also neutered? It’s made me reluctant to trust them with further purchases. I have no need for paper comics, nor are there any local English-comic stores, so I can’t even use that as a fallback position. I’ll just buy no comics. Raw convenience was also the reason Comixology was making a dent into piracy, so it’s odd to see them deliberately reduce that advantage. Now it’s like a public-service warning about the dangers of purchasing DRM’ed media. I can only speculate that Amazon bought Comixology specifically to kill it (as they did with the ebook reader app Stanza), so that reading comics on the Kindle becomes the “best” comics reading experience by default. I don’t think the good-intentioned people on Comixology’s side realized just how drastically Amazon was willing to weaken the immediate user experience to serve Amazon’s longer-range goals. Now we all know.

Too inconvenient.

Its just too hard to find new books because the website is poor. I dont even check new comic book day anymore.

spoiled

everything was so perfect

It was a best comic app

Was

Worst change

This is a nightmare! I cant buy anymore a comic by app...

Awfull

They ruined something that was working smoothly, at least from consumer perspective. Dont know if it will pay in the long run or sink the ship.

Worse than useless.

This app lacks the in-app purchase of comics. I will not use it for any reason until it restores this feature.

What the hell !!!

Restore the in App Store or f..k off !!!

Bah

No more inApp purchase is ok for me. But the new price policy is ridicolous. 30% more than the us price? Tax overpice is ok, but 30% seriously? And please set background download. I have 600 comics to synch. Its a pain.

Whatup?

Whathappened? Where are the comics? I can see just my stuff.....

Huge disappointment

They fake an update to get rid of reviews... And Ill repost mine, no problem: and yes its still 1 star. Not to ne a hater, but this update brings this app back to another decade. Buying from the website and reading in the app is clearly not the way. Please re-think.

Seriously?

Not only you guys abandoned a perfectly functioning app (have you heard of updates?) but released a nonsensical read only app, WHERE DO I BUY/BROWSE MY COMICS? You screwed up now fix this
